    Loved the experience - 5.6.2013

It is rare to have a web purchase feel like such a personal experience. The way the products are described and the prompt attention from the company was really great. I had a personal email from the owner within a few minutes of ordering to clarify something on my information. The statue arrived right on time and is better than I expected. Thanks

    Buddha statues - 5.2.2013

I have purchased six Buddhas from Lotus Sculpture sofar and am very pleased with all of them. Because of my interest in Buddhism and in travel to Asian countries, I pick each Buddha as representative of specific nations and peoples. They remind me of the richness and variety of all these people and their great contribution to the human race. Thus, I have Buddhas from India, Japan, Cambodia, Thailand, Nepal, China, and Hawaii. I have yet to purchase those from Viet Nam and Laos, countries I have yet to visit. As a professor of theology and spirituality and a writer of twelve books thusfar, my latest on Christian-Buddhist dialogue, I cannot recommend more highly the beauty of Lotus Sculpture works. Thank you to Kyle.

    • Enraged kali dancing on Shiva's corpse
    • Her tongue is out with a garland of skulls around her neck
    • Kali is hand carved from two piece of granite, one for the base and the other of Kali

    Description

"Jai Ma! Kali Durga Ma, Kali Ma!
Jai Ma! Kali Durga Ma. Jai Ma-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah!
Kali Ma! Jai Ma-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah! Durga Ma!"

The statue shows Kali is full fierce form, with a garland of skulls around her neck, a skirt made of severed arms, Her saber raised and a decapitated human head in her left hand.  She holds a long trident.  She is standing on the corpse of her husband, Shiva.  Her long matted hair flows down her back.

The Kali is made from 2 pieces of granite.  One is the full figure of Kali and Shiva.  The other piece is the base She stands upon.

    About Kali

The Hindu Goddess Kali is the malevolent form of Devi.  She is associated with eternal energy, "She who destroys".  The name Kali comes from kāla, which means "the black one".  Since Shiva is called Kāla - the eternal time, Kālī, his consort, also means "the Time" or "Death". Hence, Kali is considered the goddess of time and change.

The Story of Kali:  To aid her son in his endeavor to rid the three worlds of the multiplying demon, Raktabija, Parvati entered the cosmic battlefield as the dreaded goddess Kali - dark as death, gaunt with sunken eyes, gaping mouth, with long disheveled hair covering her naked body.

Kali spread her tongue over the battlefield and licked the demon's falling blood catching on her long, outstretched tongue before the drop could find it's way to the ground springing a demonic life anew.  Raktabija, without his multiplying numbers was left powerless.  Skanda was able to dispatch Raktabija and all his remaining duplicates with ease.

Skanda, guardian of the heavens, went on to destroy many demons who opposed the reign of the gods.  But he could not defeat the demon Raktabija.  Whenever this demon's blood touched the ground, a thousand new demons sprang to life.  He seemed unconquerable.

Skanda thanked his mother for her timely help.  To celebrate her victory, Kali danced wildly on the battlefield, bedecking herself with a garland of served heads and a girdle of severed hands.

    Shiva Calms Kali:
Intoxicated with Raktabija's blood, Kali ran a muck across the three worlds, destroying everything and everyone in her sight.
To restrain her, Shiva took the form of a corpse and blocked her path.  As the goddess, blinded by blood lust, tripped on his lifeless body, she was jolted out of her frenzy.  She wondered if she had killed her own husband.  She placed a foot on Shiva's chest and brought him back to life.

Shiva then took the form of a little child and began to cry, stirring maternal love in the heart of Kali.  This forced her to shed her fierce form; Kali became Gauri, the radiant mother, bestower of life.

    Care

Granite statues from India do not need much maintenance.  The best way to maintain the statue is to simply dust the piece periodically to keep any dirt from accumulating.  They can be used for both indoor and outdoor use.

"You can use soap, warm water and a cotton cloth to periodically
go over the statue to remove any dust or dirt buildup.
    "

Soap and warm water is the best way to maintain the statue.  You can use a small brush to get into the small crevices of the statue like the hands and hair.

Granite's durability makes it perfect for cold winters and hot summers of any climate.  The stone can stand up to the harshest conditions of heat and bitter cold.  We suggest you bathe the sculpture at least once a year so that dirt does not collect on the sculpture.  This will maintain the sculpture for your grandchildren and then their grandchildren!

If you have any questions concerning your Indian granite statue please email us at info@lotussculpture.com or call us at 1(760) 994-4455.

    Hello Kyle,

Welcome back from your trip! I hope you had a great time. I'm trying not to be envious of your frequent visits to Tamil Nadu!

Attached is a photo of the Ganesha from last night's Ganesha Chathurthi Puja at my house. It's a beautiful statue and I'm very grateful to have it in my care.
