    Loved the experience - 5.6.2013

It is rare to have a web purchase feel like such a personal experience. The way the products are described and the prompt attention from the company was really great. I had a personal email from the owner within a few minutes of ordering to clarify something on my information. The statue arrived right on time and is better than I expected. Thanks

    • Beautiful Narsi base with serpent
    • Masterpiece Ganesh!

    Description

A stunningly beautiful Nataraja Ganesh scultpure!  Ganesh is swirling in His father Shiva's dance of destruction and creation; The dance of Lord Nataraja!  His large form is perfectly balanced on one foot with all His 10 arms spread out like the rays of the sun.  He holds a knife, stick, flower, club, noose and bell. The front left hand is across his chest in the gahahasta or elephant trunk pose. Ganesh wears an elaborate flaming crown. There is a small OM sign decorating the front of his trunk. His trunk curls to Ganesha's left into a corkscrew shape.

Ganesh is dancing on a beautiful lotus base comprised of a 5 headed serpent with yali. The yali's mouth is opened with the tail of serpent going through it. The color of the sculpture is a beautiful chocolate color.

About the Black Marble:  The black marble, called sange-rathek, is found in Jhansi, in the state of Bihar, India.  The stone is known for its wonderful deep black/blue color and the colored purple and yellow veins that flow through the stone.  Looking into a piece of sange-rathek is like staring into deep space and seeing distant galaxies.  It is a very unique and wonderful stone.  Sculpture is very rare to find in this stone because there are seldom pieces of raw stone large enough to accommodate a full-sized sculpture.

    About Ganesh

"In heaven Lord Ganesh will establish the predominance of gods, on earth that of people, in the nether world that of serpents and anti-gods"
    ~A Hymn from Sri Bhagavat-Tathva~

The chubby, gentle, wise, elephant-headed Ganesh, or Ganesha, is one of Hinduisms most popular deities. He is the remover of obstacles, the deity whom worshippers first acknowledge when they visit a temple. He is also patron of letters and of learning; he is the legendary scribe who, using his broken tusk, which he often holds, wrote down parts of the Mahabharata epic. Ganesh is usually depicted colored red; he is pot bellied, has one tusk broken, and has four arms that may hold a pasam, a goad, and a pot of rice or sweetmeats. The sweet meats are held in a type of bowl known as a laddus. His appetite for these sweets is legendary and offerings of them are often left at his shrine.

Statues of Ganesh can be found in most Indian towns. His image is placed where new houses are to be built; he is honored at the start of a journey or business venture, and poets traditionally invoke him at the start of a book.

A pasam is a triple twine weapon. Each of the three twines represents, arrogance and conceit, Maya - the illusory nature of the real world, ignorance. In Hindu ideology weapons are a viewed as symbolic tools to destroy the ego rather than to cause any type of bloodshed. Goads (or elephant prods) are typically used to direct elephants. Goads are symbolic of how one should steer the soul away from the ignorance and illusions of this earthly world just as a mahout would steer an elephant away from any treacherous path.

    About the Artist

Balan Arimuvani is the artist behind all our colored marble statues.  He has worked with Lotus Sculpture since we started in 2002. His small marble workshop began with only him and 2 other workers.  His business has grown to 8 marble artists and now he has a granite workshop employing 30 workers for large granite statues. He continually credits Lotus Sculpture with his success saying it would not have been possible with out the continuing commissions from Lotus Sculpture.  Balan is a good friend of Kyle Tortora, the owner of Lotus Sculpture. He has a wife and two beautiful girls.

    Care

"Use a cotton cloth and gently buff the surface of the statue to bring out the natural polish of the stone."

White, red and black marble statues are easy to take care of as they just need some annual upkeep to keep them looking as they did when they were first carved.  Here are some easy tips to keep your White, red and black marble statues from Lotus Sculpture looking like the gods they are:
    • Dust the statue as needed to prevent dirt build up
    • To make the statue shine use a cotton cloth to buff the sculpture
    • You can use a small amount of natural oil such as coconut oil or olive oil to further polish the sculpture
    • Use a tooth brush to get into the hard to reach spaces of the sculpture
    • DO NOT TOUCH the painted surfaces of any of the white marble statues.  This will damage the painting if done often
We recommend keeping our marble statues in an indoor environment.  The statues are durable however not durable enough to brave the natural outdoors.  Please feel free to contact us directly if you have any questions regarding your wooden statue from Lotus Sculpture, (760) 994-4455 or info@lotussculpture.com.
