But, Kyle proposed me many other solution to help me getting what I wanted. So I would like to thank him for everthing he did for me. I received both of them yesterday. Loved the experience - 5.6.2013

It is rare to have a web purchase feel like such a personal experience. The way the products are described and the prompt attention from the company was really great. I had a personal email from the owner within a few minutes of ordering to clarify something on my information. The statue arrived right on time and is better than I expected. Thanks

    Buddha statues - 5.2.2013

I have purchased six Buddhas from Lotus Sculpture sofar and am very pleased with all of them. Because of my interest in Buddhism and in travel to Asian countries, I pick each Buddha as representative of specific nations and peoples. They remind me of the richness and variety of all these people and their great contribution to the human race. Thus, I have Buddhas from India, Japan, Cambodia, Thailand, Nepal, China, and Hawaii. I have yet to purchase those from Viet Nam and Laos, countries I have yet to visit. As a professor of theology and spirituality and a writer of twelve books thusfar, my latest on Christian-Buddhist dialogue, I cannot recommend more highly the beauty of Lotus Sculpture works. Thank you to Kyle.

    Description

Shiva's other son besides Ganesh is Kartikeya, also known as Kumara, Skanda, Subramanya, Shanmukha or Murugan (used in Tamil Nadu).  As Subramanya, he has two consorts, Valli and Devasena, who embody Jnana Shakti, the power of knowledge and Kriya Shakti, the power of action.  As Kartikeya he is designated the deity of war, guarding right and destroying evil.  As Shanmukha, the six-headed, he teaches that we have five senses and the mind, and only when all six are in harmony is there spiritual growth.   In his hand he holds the vel, a sharp spear.  He uses the vel to guard the spiritual progress of the world.   The vel is cast separately and can be removed from the statue.

Lost Wax Method:  This sculpture is a one of a kind, lost wax method bronze statue hand made by the artists of South India.  The sculpture pictured is the only sculpture Lotus Sculpture has like this in our store.  When you order this piece you will receive this exact sculpture.  It is truly one of a kind as there is only one made exactly like this!  Each bronze is hand made by a group of bronze artists whose families have been crafting bronze sculptures for centuries with the art being passed on by each generation.  The hand crafted bronzes statues have an incredible amount of detail which many other mass produced, brass Hindu statues lack.  Lost Wax South Indian bronze statues are the only sculptures used by Hindu temples throughout India and the world.  Click here to learn more about the Lost Wax Method.

About the Golden Polish:  This bronze sculpture has been polished after casting giving it a golden shine.  Polished bronze pieces are often used in temples.  Temples prefer the polished bronze icons because the rituals involved in puja often involve bathing the bronze deity, which naturally removes the bronze patina of an older piece.  Over time and with no periodic care the golden polish will naturally dull to form a dark patina that is naturally found on aged bronze.

    About Murugan

Murugan or Skanda is regarded as the supreme commander of the Gods and the destroyer of evil forces.  He is also regarded as the epitome of knowledge.  He is revered as an infant, as a child - (Balasubramanian), as a handsome and romantic prince (Valli Manavaalan - Azhagan Murugan), as an invincible warrior - ruler, and also as a mature renunciate. Murugan is also known as Kartikeya, Kumara, Skanda, Subramanya, Shanmukha or  Murugan.   As Kartikeya he is designated the deity of war, guarding right and destroying evil.  As Subramanya, he has two consorts, Valli and Devasena, who embody Jnana Shakti, the power of knowledge and Kriya Shakti, the power of action. As Shanmukha, the six-headed, he teaches that we have five senses and the mind, and only when all six are in harmony is there spiritual growth.

Murugan is regarded as the son of Shiva and Parvati and hence the brother of Ganesha.  There is a shrine to Murugan in all Saivite temples in Tamil Nadu, and likewise there are shrines to Shiva and Parvati in all temples dedicated to Skanda.

Valli, the daughter of a tribal ruler and Devani the daughter of Indra the King of Devas are the consorts of Skanda.  Murugan is also revered as the nephew of Vishnu and is referred to as Maal Marugan.

Murugan's vahana or vehicle is the peacock who struts around admiring his own beauty.  Murugan places himself on top of the peacock suppressing it, reminding us not to let pride and egotism get the better of us.  In battle Murugan's weapon is a bow and arrow.  He is often shown carrying a flag and vel or spear.  The vel is a symbol of Lord Murugan.  He uses the vel to guard the spiritual progress of the world.

The Story of the Birth of the Celestial Warlord:  Parvati gave Shiva's aura to the gods.  "From this will rise the warlord you seek," said the goddess.
The gods gave Shiva's aura to Svaha, consort of Agni, the fire god.  Unable to bear the heat of the aura and the god Agni for long, Svaha gave the aura to Ganga the river goddess who cooled it in her icy waters until Shiva's aura turned into a seed.
Aranyani, the goddess of the forest, embedded the divine seed in the fertile forest floor where it was transformed into a robust child with six heads and twelve arms.
Six forest nymphs called the Krittikas found this magnificent child in a lotus.  Over come by maternal affection they began nursing him.  The six headed son of Shiva, born of many mothers, came to be known as Kartikeya.
Parvati taught Kartikeya the art of war and turned him into the celestial warlord called Skanda.
Skanda took command of the celestial armies, defeated Taraka in battle and restored the heavens to the gods.

    Care
