Description Dattatreya or Datta is considered by Hindus to be god who is an incarnation of the Divine Trinity Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. The word Datta means "Given", Datta is called so because the divine trinity has "given" themselves in the form of a son to the sage couple Atri and Anasuya. He is the son of Atri, hence the name "Atreya."

The three faced Datta is standing holding symbols in his hands that are typical of the 3 gods that make up Dattatreya.  In his foremost hands he holds a water vessel and string of malas symbols typical of lord Brahma.  In his middle two hands he holds a dhamru or drum, a symbol of Lord Shiva.  In his back two hands he holds a conch and discus, symbols of Lord Vishnu.  Represented in Datta's three faces are the members of the Hindu trinity.  The face looking straight ahead is Lord Vishnu with the distinct "V" on his forehead.  Looking to Datta's left is Lord Shiva with three horizontal marks across his forehead.  Looking to Datta's left towards the discus is Brahma.  There is a large cow behind Datta that can be identified with Kamadhenu, the gift giving cow.

Dattatreya is recognized as an Avatar or incarnation of the Lord Shiva and as the Adi-Guru (First Teacher) of the Adinath Sampradaya of the Nathas. Although Dattatreya was at first a "Lord of Yoga" exhibiting distinctly Tantric traits, he was adapted and assimilated into the more devotional Vaishnavite cults; while still worshiped by millions of Hindus, he is approached more as a benevolent god than as a teacher of the highest essence of Indian thought.  The four dogs surrounding Datta represent the four Vedas.  The dogs are both wild and tame and symbols of fidelity and devotion.

About Makrana White Marble:  Makrana marble is regarded as being the oldest marble in age and the finest quality.  Makrana marble is named after a small town in Rajasthan, India where it is mined.  Artists have always sought out makrana marble because of its pure white color and its hardness.  Makrana marble was made famous for its use as the principle stone in the building of the Taj Mahal.  In sculpture the marble is often hand painted in vibrant colors giving a beautiful contrast to the pure white of the marble.
