Description
The Fat Buddha is seated on a base with diamond like shapes cut on all sides. He is seated with both legs tucked underneath his enormous belly. Both of His hands are clutching his big belly. The Buddhas belly signifies abundance. Not of material wealth but a wealth of happiness and health.
The antique patina of the statue is a mix of red, copper and brown colorations. The Buddha would add happiness to any space, indoors or outside.
Exporting Buddhas from Thailand: As a Thai customs formality, Buddha sculptures are restricted to be exported out of the country. The original law was established to protect Thailand's ancient religious artifacts and antique Buddha images from being stolen and sold illegally. Until recently, this law was not actively enforced on newly made Buddha statues. In 2010, Lotus Sculpture experienced containers being confiscated en route to the USA, thus making importing increasingly difficult and costly. This may lead to an end of importing Thai Buddhist images altogether, which would be a tragedy to all involved; our customers; our business; and especially for the artists who rely on selling Buddhist art to earn a living. It is our view that we are promoting the export of a beautiful art and supplying images for personal religious practice, rather than causing any harm to Thailand or Buddhism.
About Fat & Happy Buddha
In sculpture the Laughing Buddha is depicted with a large, exposed belly carrying a hemp sack, which is filled with gold, health and happiness. Buddhists do not see wealth as being only material but spiritual wealth as well. Both his belly and the large sack convey this concept of abundance.
The laughing Buddha of Wealth is always depicted in a relaxing posture, exuding happiness to all who are near Him. His smile and jovial nature is infectious, reminding you that there is more to life than just worldly possessions. His large Belly is always bursting out of his robes. Sometimes he wears red colored robes that represent good fortune and blessings.
He usually carries a gold ingot (sycee) or a small hemp sack in his hand. He sits or stands upon a hemp sack of wealth under him. Around his neck, he wears auspicious mala beads as well as a large, round medallion that bring blessings to the surrounding. He sometimes holds a stick known as a wish stick, which he uses to grant people boons. Many people believe that rubbing his belly will grant anyone their wish.
He is often seen surrounded by children or carrying children on his back. Children naturally flock to him, not just because he gives them candy but because his joyous nature is so childlike that they see him as an equal. Some people believe a statue of the laughing Buddha is good to have around newborns as well as those wanting to have children.

Care
Many of our brass statues have been placed in outdoor temples or in gardens. Brass's durability makes it perfect for cold winters and hot summers of any climate. We suggest you bathe the sculpture every couple of months so that dirt does not collect on the sculpture and then use a cotton cloth with some natural oil to give the statue a shine. Both indoors and outdoors a bronze statue can be left alone which, overtime, will give the brass an antique patina.
On some brass statues you can see small hints of lime green, verde-gris patina. Some people prize this color for its age others want to remove it. If you would like to remove the verde-gris use a tooth brush with some coconut oil or other natural oil and lightly go over the verde-gris. This should remove the unwanted patina from the sculpture.
