    Tmeless sculptures - 12.4.2014

I had ordered the andal and I was worried how the details would be as to the features. I absolutely loved it and it has the ancient looks of Indian sculptures and the features were sharp. The item arrived in couple of days and I was thrilled. I collect antiques and Indian artifacts and I am sure I will be a frequent customer at your store. I think I have found my "go to " shop for Indian relics. Thank you so much Savitha

    Wonderful Experience - 11.7.2014

I was looking for religious statues for my home for quite a while. Every website I looked at was either too expensive or too confusing to navigate. Then I happened upon Lotus Sculpture. Not only was it the most user-friendly site I've ever seen, it also had the most reasonable prices. For the size and detailed carving of the statue you will not find a better price, unless you grab a block of wood and carve it yourself. The site allows you to first pick which religious statue you want then you can pick which size and then which material.....Brilliant!!!.. I had chosen my statues within minutes. Everything arrived professionally packed in 5 days all the way up to Canada. I even decided to call the number on the website to ask the owner Kyle a few questions and he literally answered on the first ring. He was very accommodating and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend this store. My statues are getting rave reviews with my friends. Thanks again Kyle. Keep up the good work.

Beautiful, so full of energy - 11.6.2014

I love my Ganesha! The statue is beautifully and painstakingly carved with a great attention to detail. I will be using the statue also for spiritual practice and this Ganesha is perfect in that all the symbolic details are accurate, and there is a feeling that the energy of the deity is already in him and one can have an intimate contact with Ganesha. Also many thanks to Lotus Sculpture for the efficient and friendly service, and for getting him to me so fast! I will be shopping again with you!

    Lord Ganesha - 11.4.2014

I ordered this sculpture as a gift to myself for the holidays. I have always had a statue of Lord Ganesha in my home - this one is wonderful! All that he represents and inspires in us I truly believe happens when we pay homage to him. He will be a treasured addition to my home.

    Description

The foundation of this masterpiece is the intricate chariot. The large back wheels and smaller front wheels have wheel wells carved from peacocks with their long tails behind them. Krishna is seated on the front of the chariot turning to speak with Arjuna about his duty as a warrior. Arjuna is kneeling with his hands clasp in adoration of his revered friend Lord Krishna. Arjuna is surrounded by 4 columns that support a large roof that covers both Arjuna and Krishna. The front of the roof has a small Hanuman bearing a battle flag. The 8 horses are all in various stages of movement from repose to a slight trot. The piece would be the perfect centerpiece for a temple. Its size and beauty should be admired by as many people as possible. It is a truly inspiring murti which you can almost hear the discussion between Krishna and Arjuna if you listen closely.

The piece is a lost wax masterpiece. The chariot is made of multiple separate parts that can be disconnected and put together. The chariot wheels are movable parts and can roll. Arjuna, Krishna, the horses and Hanuman can all be removed for easy cleaning or moving. The horses can either be arranged in 4 rows of 2 or in two rows of four. They are picture above in 4 rows of 2 horses.

Krishna, the driver of the chariot, is cast from pure copper. Arjuna is cast from German silver or pewter. The body of the chariot is cast from ice brass while the wheels are fashioned from pure copper. Flag bearing Hanuman is cast from pure copper as well. Four of the horses are cast from bronze with 2 cast from pure copper, 1 from ice brass and 1 from German silver.

About the Bhaghavad Gita or "Song of the Lord": Arjuna was a master archer and played a central role in the conflict between the Pandavas and their adversaries, the sons of Dhritarashtra known as the Kauravas. Arjuna was reluctant to take part in battle because he knew he would wind up killing most of his adversaries which included many of his own relatives. He was persuaded by his charioteer and close friend Lord Krishna, to change his mind. Their dialogue which is the subject of the Bhagavad-Gita was centered around a warrior's duty or dharma, the nature of human life and the soul, and the role of gods. Krishna persuades Arjuna to follow his dharma and uphold the moral code of a warrior and to fight even if it is against his own relatives.

    About Krishna

One of the most widely revered and most popular of all Indian divinities, is Krishna worshipped as the eighth incarnation (avatar) of Vishnu. Krishna became the focus of a large number of devotional cults, which over the centuries have produced a wealth of religious poetry, music, painting and sculpture.

The child Krishna was adored for his mischievous pranks; he also performed many miracles and slew demons. As a youth, the cowherd Krishna became renown as a lover, the sound of his flute prompting gopis (wives and daughters of the cowherds) to leave their homes to dance ecstatically with him in the forests. His favorite among them was the beautiful Radha. Krishna's youthful dalliances with the gopis are interpreted as symbolic of the loving interplay between God and the human soul. Krishna affirms life in his pranks, music and lovemaking.

The rich variety of legends associated with Krishna's life led to an abundance of representation in painting and sculpture. The most reknown story surrounding Krishna is the Bahgavad Gita or Gita which is considered one of the most importatnt Hindu texts. The Gita is the conversation between Krishna and Arjuna. Krishna is explaining to Arjuna that it is Arjuna's moral obligation to fight in a war that will put him against some members of his family. Krishna like Vishnu is an upholder of the moral order of the universe.

    Care

Bronze is an extremely durable metal made from a combination of 5 metals; copper, iron, tin, with minute additions of silver and gold.  This combination is called Panchaloha bronze and is the basis for making the sacred Hindu temple statues of India and the world.  Copper is the most prevalent metal in the alloy.  Copper also gives the metal a softer composition that allows the bronze artisans to carve the details that are prevalent in each piece.    All the South Indian bronze sculpture Lotus Sculpture carries are Panchaloham and thus suited for any home altar or community temple.

"If you would like the piece to shine use a cotton cloth with some coconut oil or other natural oil to wipe down the bronze statue."

Because of the durability of the metal not much is needed to maintain a bronze sculpture.  Many of our customers purchase a bronze statue and perform daily puja and abhisheka consisting of bathing the Hindu deity in ghee, milk, coconut milk or other liquids.  In this case nothing is needed to keep the statue clean as it will be bathed daily.  If the sculpture is used for "darshan" or simply viewing the sculpture it is best to dust the statue as needed so no dirt collects in the details of the sculpture. For both polished golden bronzes and antique patina bronze statues if you would like the sculpture to shine use a cotton cloth with some coconut oil or other natural oil to wipe down the piece as needed.

Many of our bronze Hindu statues have been placed in outdoor temples.  Bronze's durability makes it perfect for cold winters and hot summers of any climate.  We suggest you bathe the sculpture every couple of months so that dirt does not collect on the sculpture and then use a cotton cloth with some natural oil to give the statue a shine.  Both indoors and outdoors a bronze statue can be left alone which, overtime, will give the bronze an antique patina.

On some bronze statues you can see small hints of lime green, verde-gris patina.  Some people prize this color for its age others want to remove it.  If you would like to remove the verde-gris use a tooth brush with some coconut oil or other natural oil and lightly go over the verde-gris.  This should remove the unwanted patina from the sculpture.

If you have any questions concerning your bronze statue please email us at info@lotussculpture.com or call us at 1(760) 994-4455.
