The Rough Cut of the
Sculpture
The rough cut of the
sculpture is the basic outline in stone of the finished sculpture.
| The sculptor must
first break off large portions of the rock to form the basic outline
of the piece. This process usually consumes the majority of
total time of the carving.

Corrections on each
piece are made by the master artisan of the group. Corrections
are made in charcoal pencil. The artists is expected to chisel
away the rock right to the charcoal line. This is vital for
keeping the piece the proper proportions. Artists use
measuring tape to keep the piece proportional. |
