Carving the Final Details of the Granite Sculpture

Once the rough cut is
completed the details are started.
The artists who carve the
details are generally more skilled than the rough cut artists.
Small chisels and hammers are used to carve the details like the eyes
and ornaments of the sculpture.

A variety of polishing
stones are used to hand polish the granite. The hand polishing
gives the sculpture its smooth finish. |

Often times more than
one artist works on a larger piece at once. The large piece
can still take over 1 year to complete! |
