Golden Brass Durga Hindu Goddess Statue A Brief History and Its Significance Durga Puja, or Durgotsava, is an annual Hindu festival celebrated primarily in the Indian subcontinent, especially in the eastern states of India like West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, and Odisha. The festival venerates Goddess Durga, a warrior goddess who embodies power and shakti (energy). The origins of Durga Puja are rooted in ancient Indian traditions, but the most popular legend behind the festival comes from the Hindu scriptures, particularly the "Devi Mahatmyam."

      ~Hindu goddess, Durga.
Golden Brass Durga Hindu Goddess Statue The Legend of Mahishasura According to the myth, a buffalo demon named Mahishasura was granted a boon that he could not be defeated by any man or god. Empowered with this invincibility, he wreaked havoc on the heavens, defeating the gods and driving them out of heaven. Unable to bear his tyranny, the trinity of gods - Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva - combined their energies, resulting in the birth of Durga, a ten-armed goddess with each hand holding a potent weapon gifted by the gods. In an epic battle, Durga, riding a lion, defeated and killed Mahishasura, thereby symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.
