Avalokiteshvara is the bodhisattva of infinite compassion, known across Asia as Guanyin in China and Chenrezig in Tibet, revered as the one who hears the cries of all suffering beings and reaches out to relieve them. This thousand-armed, seven-faced form, called Sahasrabhuja, arose from the vow that Avalokiteshvara would look upon every direction at once and extend a helping hand to all in need, the multitude of arms and faces expressing a compassion so vast it can reach every corner of existence simultaneously.

Seated in full lotus position, the two central hands press together at the heart in anjali mudra, the namaste gesture of reverence, while a lower pair rests in the lap in dhyana mudra. From behind, hundreds of arms fan out in a great radiating halo, each open palm marked with an eye and many holding sacred implements including a trident, staff, and vessels, symbolizing wisdom paired with tireless active aid. The serene central face carries closed, downcast eyes and a gentle smile, and above it rise tiers of smaller heads culminating in a small Buddha at the crown, marking the seven-headed form that surveys all directions. A robe drapes softly over the shoulders and pools across the crossed legs. The whole rises from a wide double-lotus throne with overlapping petals. Cast in warm golden bronze with and standing 16 inches tall, this piece is a radiant centerpiece for an altar, shrine, or meditation space.

Bronze statues from China do not need much maintenance. They are durable and strong! Most statues have black felt on the bottom of them to protect the surface they sit on. The best way to maintain the statue is to simply dust the piece periodically to keep any dirt from accumulating. These statues are mostly small and meant for indoor use.
