      • Gautama Buddha is the awakened teacher of Buddhism, and the dhyana mudra meditation pose represents his complete arrival in enlightenment, a stillness that has made this image one of the most enduring in all of sacred art
      • He sits in padmasana with hands in dhyana mudra, a natural serene smile, the urna third eye dot between his brows, elongated earlobes, and a ushnisha of individually carved spiral curls above robes that fall in clean weighted folds across his crossed legs
      • Cast in dense terrazzo stone with a dark speckled granite-like finish this Buddha brings grounded, lasting presence to a garden, courtyard, or meditation room
Gautama Buddha is the awakened teacher at the foundation of Buddhism, whose seated meditation image has anchored sacred spaces, temple gardens, and personal altars across Asia for over two thousand years. The meditation posture represents not a moment of seeking but one of complete arrival, the stillness of a mind that has fully released its grip on suffering and rests in open awareness. In this form, the Buddha is not performing enlightenment but simply inhabiting it.
This sculpture depicts the Buddha seated in padmasana, the full lotus position, with both hands resting in his lap in dhyana mudra, the meditation gesture in which the hands are placed one over the other with palms facing upward. His expression is one of genuine ease: eyes softly downcast, a natural smile at the corners of his mouth that carries warmth without effort. The urna dot sits clearly between his brows, marking the seat of transcendent wisdom and inner sight. His elongated earlobes rest at either side of his neck, the enduring physical reminder of his former life as a prince who wore heavy ornamental jewelry before his renunciation of the world. His ushnisha rises above a band of tightly individually carved spiral curls that follow the full circumference of his head, each curl distinct and clearly rendered. His robe drapes from both shoulders in clean, evenly spaced folds that follow the natural weight of the fabric, falling in a U-shaped curve across his chest and continuing down over his crossed legs, which spread outward to either side with the fabric fanning across them.

The sculpture is cast in terrazzo stone, a composite material that combines crushed stone aggregate with a binding medium, producing a dense, heavy piece with a speckled dark grey surface. The terrazzo finish gives this Buddha a rich, granite-like appearance with fine white mineral flecks visible across the surface in natural light, distinguishing it clearly from plain concrete or resin pieces. Terrazzo stone is durable and well suited to permanent outdoor placement, handling sun, rain, and temperature variation without deteriorating. Its substantial weight gives it the stable, grounded presence of carved natural stone.

At 32 inches tall, this Buddha works as a garden centerpiece, a courtyard or terrace focal point, a companion to a water feature or garden path, or an indoor anchor for a meditation room, entryway, or altar space. The serene smile and open meditation gesture make this one of the most approachable and quietly compelling Buddha sculptures available at this scale.

"If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change."
       ~ Buddha~
The Buddha, whose original name was Siddhartha Gautama, was the founder of Buddhism, the religion and the philosophical system that produced a great culture throughout much of southern and eastern Asia.  Buddha, meaning "awakened one" or "enlightened one" is a title not a name.  In Hindu Dogma, the Buddha is viewed as being the 9th avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu.
The Buddha was a son of the rulers Sakyas.  He was married at the age of 16 and lived in luxury and comfort sheltered from the harsh realities of life.  When he was 29 he realized that men are subject to old age, sickness and death.  He became aware of the suffering inherent in existence.  He resolved to give up princely life and become a wandering ascetic (samana) in search for the Truth.
With the two of samanas he attained mystical states of elevated consciousness but he failed to find the Truth.  He continued his search and was joined by five ascetics in a grove near Uruvela, where he practiced sever austerities and self-mortification for six years.  When he fainted away in weakness, he abandoned ascetic practices to seek his own path to Enlightenment.  Discarding the teachings of his contemporaries, through meditation he achieved Enlightenment, or ultimate understanding.  There after the Buddha instructed his followers in the dharma (truth) and the "Middle Way" a path between worldly life and extremes of self-denial.
The essence of the Buddha's early preaching was said to be the four Noble truths: 1) life is fundamentally disappointment and suffering.  2) suffering is a result of one's desires for pleasure, power, and continued existence; 3) to stop disappointment and suffering on must stop desiring; and 4) the way to stop desiring and thus suffering is the Noble eight fold path - right views, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right awareness and right concentration.  The realization of the truth of anatman (no eternal self) was taught as essential for the indescribable state of release called nirvana.
