Chenrezig is the bodhisattva of compassion in Tibetan Buddhism, known across Asia under many names: Avalokiteshvara in Sanskrit, Kuan Yin in China, and Kannon in Japan. His four arms represent the four immeasurable virtues of love, compassion, joy, and equanimity, together forming the foundation of bodhichitta, the awakened heart of compassion at the center of Buddhist practice. His serene, soothing presence has made him one of the most beloved deities of the Himalayan world, a calming refuge for all who seek him.

Seated in padmasana, the full lotus posture symbolizing the union of compassion and emptiness that is the key to becoming a bodhisattva, this four-armed form joins his two central hands at the heart in anjali mudra, holding a wish-fulfilling jewel between them. His upper right hand holds a crystal mala for counting mantras, while his upper left raises the stem of a lotus blossoming at his shoulder. His youthful face is finely painted with serene downcast eyes, blue-tinted brows, and red lips, crowned with a tall five-pointed diadem inlaid with turquoise and coral. A towering pointed crown frames him and is studded with colorful gemstones. The statue is seated on a wide double-lotus throne banded with beaded petals and precious inlay. Cast in golden bronze and standing 15 inches tall, this piece is a radiant centerpiece for an altar, shrine, or meditation space.

The best way to maintain the statue is to simply dust the piece periodically to keep any dirt from accumulating. These statues are mostly small and meant for indoor use.
