Devi is the supreme feminine principle in Hinduism, the universal goddess who embodies shakti, the primordial creative energy that animates all existence. She is the source from which all other goddess forms arise, including Parvati, Lakshmi, and Saraswati. Where male deities represent consciousness, Devi represents the living force that sets the world in motion. In Balinese and South Asian temple tradition, her image is carved at sacred water sources, fountains, and ritual bathing pools, places where the flow of water and the flow of divine energy are understood as one.

This sculpture depicts Devi seated in a relaxed cross-legged position on a carved lotus base. She holds a large round vessel directly in front of her lower abdomen with both hands, its center marked by a carved mandala medallion. At the center of this medallion is a drilled fountain spout, designed to emit a continuous stream of water from the vessel she carries. The symbolism is precise: Devi as the source from which shakti flows outward into the world, rendered here as literal water emerging from her hands. Her upper body is bare except for a carved brassiere-style bodice with ornamental detailing along its lower edge, a beaded necklace draped across her chest, and carved armlets and bracelets at her upper arms and wrists. Her right hand is raised with two fingers extended in a gesture near her shoulder. Her face carries a serene, slightly downcast expression with closed eyes and a composed mouth. She wears an elaborate tiered mukuta crown rising to a pointed apex, with dense scrollwork, floral bands, and carved ornament across its full height. Decorative ear pieces extend from either side of the crown at jaw level.

The sculpture is carved from colored stone, a dense material from Indonesia with a warm, dark grey-brown tone that distinguishes it from standard grey lava stone. This stone holds fine ornamental detail well and is suited for permanent outdoor installation in garden and water feature settings. The carving across this piece is hand-finished, with particular care given to the crown, bodice, vessel medallion, and lotus base.

This Devi fountain sculpture functions both as a working water feature and as a devotional focal point. She suits a garden pond, reflecting pool, courtyard fountain, or any outdoor water setting where the presence of the goddess as source of flowing abundance is intended. She can also be displayed without water as a standalone garden sculpture.

Devi is the Sanskrit word for "Goddess". She is the core aspect of every Hindu Goddess. Devi is synonymous with Shakti, the female aspect of the divine, as conceptualized by the Shakta tradition of Hinduism. She is the female counterpart without whom the male aspect, which represents consciousness or discrimination, remains impotent and void.

Devi has many different names depending on where in India she is worshipped. In Madurai she is referred to as Meenakshi, in Chidambaram Shivakami, and in Kanchipuram she is revered as Kamatchi. In each city her likeness takes on different aspects as you can see by the variety of poses of Devi. As Meenakshi she stands holding a parrot. As Shivakami she stands next to her husband as Lord Nataraja and as Kamatchi holding fertility symbols.

Kamatchi is Devi in her creative manifestation bearing fertility symbols such as sugarcane, conch shell and parrot. As Prakriti she balances out the male aspect of the divine.

Lava stone statues from Bali do not need much maintenance. The best way to maintain the statue is to simply dust the piece periodically to keep any dirt from accumulating. They can be used for both indoor and outdoor use.

You can use soap, warm water and a cotton cloth to periodically go over the statue to remove any dust or dirt buildup.

Lava stone's durability makes it perfect for cold winters and hot summers of any climate. The stone can stand up to the harshest conditions of heat and bitter cold. We suggest you bathe the sculpture at least once a year so that dirt does not collect on the sculpture. This will maintain the sculpture for your grandchildren and then their grandchildren!

This sculpture is in our Oceanside, California gallery and ready for immediate packing & shipping. Packing takes anywhere from 1-4 business days. Shipping takes anywhere from 1-6 business days. The shipping price is automatically calculated from Oceanside, California to the destination in the online checkout. Shipping will be calculated based on the weight of the sculpture and the distance to the destination from our Oceanside, California showroom.
The delivery charges include insurance, a residential lift gate delivery to your home or business. The freight company will call you to schedule a delivery day and time frame to make the delivery. Someone must be present to receive the statue. Depending on where you are located we will use either R&L Carriers, UPS Freight, Estes, DHX or Roadrunner Transport.
The freight company will use a lift gate to bring the sculpture to the ground and then use a pallet jack to move it anywhere on the same level. They will move it anywhere in your driveway or in your garage. They will not take it to your backyard or in the elevator to your apartment or up or down any steps. They will not be unpacking the statue and taking the crate away. Think of them as you would UPS or Fedex. They only deliver the statue. If you require a little extra service, (within reason) a tip to a delivery man usually works wonders!
For placing the statue our customers have either placed the statue themselves with help of a friend and a tool like a hand truck or a dolly. Or by contacting their landscaper who is used to moving large and heavy objects like rocks and trees into place. For much larger and heavier sculptures sometimes the customer needs a piece of heavy equipment for placing the statue like a crane or forklift. Packing takes anywhere from 1-4 days depending on the statue. We can ship the statue using either sea or air freight to either the your home or the closest port.
