Tara is the beloved goddess of compassion and swift action in Tibetan Buddhism, the divine mother who rushes to the aid of all beings in times of fear and difficulty. In her Green Tara form she sits with one leg extended, ready to step down from her lotus throne the very moment she is called, embodying compassion not as passive feeling but as active, immediate rescue. She is among the most cherished deities of the Himalayan world, invoked for protection, healing, and liberation from suffering.

She sits in the posture of royal ease with her right leg extended down onto a small lotus footrest, her right hand resting on her knee in varada mudra, the gesture of granting boons, while her left hand at her heart holds the stem of a lotus in vitarka mudra. Long lotus stems rise along both sides of her body, spiraling up to blossoms and buds that open at either shoulder. Her serene face is finely painted with half-open eyes, blue-tinted brows, red lips, and a red bindi, crowned with a tall five-pointed diadem inlaid with turquoise and coral. Layered beaded necklaces, long pendant earrings, and jeweled armbands adorn her, and a towering openwork aureole scrolls with foliate flourishes behind her, all rising from a wide double-lotus throne banded with beaded petals and gemstone inlay. Cast in golden bronze and standing 15 inches tall, this piece is a radiant centerpiece for an altar, shrine, or meditation space.

The best way to maintain the statue is to simply dust the piece periodically to keep any dirt from accumulating. These statues are mostly small and meant for indoor use.
