  • This black marble Kali statue depicts the goddess triumphing over Shiva, symbolizing power, destruction, and renewal
  • She holds a sword, severed head, and bowl, embodying the victory of truth over illusion and the end of ego
  • Ideal for homes or temples, this sculpture radiates protection, transformation, and fearless divine energy
  • Kali is hand carved from one solid piece of black marble by the artists of Jaipur and completely one of a kind
This striking Indian black marble statue of Goddess Kali captures the fierce embodiment of divine feminine energy and transformation. Revered as the destroyer of evil and the liberator of souls, Kali Ma stands triumphantly over Lord Shiva, symbolizing the victory of truth and cosmic balance over ego and illusion. Her expression is both fierce and compassionate, representing the dual nature of creation and destruction in Hindu philosophy.

The sculpture shows Kali with four arms, holding a sword, a severed head, a bowl, and blessing with an open palm, each gesture rich with spiritual meaning. The sword represents divine wisdom that cuts through ignorance, while the severed head symbolizes the death of ego. The necklace of human heads and skirt of arms signify the cycles of karma and rebirth. The vibrant detailing especially the red hands, tongue, and ornaments emphasizes her fierce energy and role as the ultimate protector.

Expertly hand-carved from black marble, the statue showcases fine craftsmanship in the jewelry, facial features, and flowing drapery. The contrast between the polished black stone and colorful embellishments brings depth and realism to the piece. This powerful image of Kali serves as a symbol of courage, liberation, and divine protection, making it an inspiring centerpiece for temples, homes, or meditation spaces.

"The statue chooses you.

The Hindu Goddess Kali is the malevolent form of Devi.  She is associated with eternal energy, "She who destroys".  The name Kali comes from kāla, which means "the black one".  Since Shiva is called Kāla - the eternal time, Kālī, his consort, also means "the Time" or "Death". Hence, Kali is considered the goddess of time and change.

The Story of Kali:  To aid her son in his endeavor to rid the three worlds of the multiplying demon, Raktabija, Parvati entered the cosmic battlefield as the dreaded goddess Kali - dark as death, gaunt with sunken eyes, gaping mouth, with long disheveled hair covering her naked body.

Kali spread her tongue over the battlefield and licked the demon's falling blood catching on her long, outstretched tongue before the drop could find it's way to the ground springing a demonic life anew.  Raktabija, without his multiplying numbers was left powerless.  Skanda was able to dispatch Raktabija and all his remaining duplicates with ease.

Skanda, guardian of the heavens, went on to destroy many demons who opposed the reign of the gods.  But he could not defeat the demon Raktabija.  Whenever this demon's blood touched the ground, a thousand new demons sprang to life.  He seemed unconquerable.

Skanda thanked his mother for her timely help.  To celebrate her victory, Kali danced wildly on the battlefield, bedecking herself with a garland of served heads and a girdle of severed hands.

Shiva Calms Kali:
Intoxicated with Raktabija's blood, Kali ran a muck across the three worlds, destroying everything and everyone in her sight.
To restrain her, Shiva took the form of a corpse and blocked her path.  As the goddess, blinded by blood lust, tripped on his lifeless body, she was jolted out of her frenzy.  She wondered if she had killed her own husband.  She placed a foot on Shiva's chest and brought him back to life.

Shiva then took the form of a little child and began to cry, stirring maternal love in the heart of Kali.  This forced her to shed her fierce form; Kali became Gauri, the radiant mother, bestower of life.
Use a cotton cloth and gently buff the surface of the statue to bring out the natural polish of the stone.

White, red and black marble statues are easy to take care of as they just need some annual upkeep to keep them looking as they did when they were first carved. Here are some easy tips to keep your White, red and black marble statues from Lotus Sculpture looking like the gods they are:

  • Dust the statue as needed to prevent dirt build up
  • To make the statue shine use a cotton cloth to buff the sculpture
  • You can use a small amount of natural oil such as coconut oil or olive oil to further polish the sculpture
  • Use a tooth brush to get into the hard to reach spaces of the sculpture
  • DO NOT TOUCH the painted surfaces of any of the white marble statues. This will damage the painting if done often

White marble statues that are unpainted can be placed outdoors. We recommend keeping our smaller red and black marble statues as well as any painted marble statues in an indoor environment. The red and black marble statues have some delicate pieces that could chip if left outisde. The paint from the white marble statues will not last for more than 4 years if left outside so use discretion when placing your statues outdoors.
