Lakshmi is the Hindu goddess of wealth, prosperity, abundance, and grace, the consort of Vishnu and one of the most widely worshipped deities in Hindu tradition. Her presence in a home is understood to invite material and spiritual prosperity, and her image is placed in homes, businesses, and temples throughout India and the Hindu diaspora as an active invitation for her blessings to enter. She is most commonly depicted seated on a lotus, the flower that rises through muddy water into beauty and light, which in Hindu symbolism represents purity, spiritual attainment, and the capacity to thrive in any conditions. This murti presents her in lalitasana on a large open lotus throne, her four arms holding the sacred objects that define her complete iconographic form: the lower right hand open in varada mudra, the gesture of giving and the bestowal of boons upon her devotees; the lower left open in abhaya mudra offering protection and fearlessness; the upper right holding a fully bloomed red lotus bud representing purity and enlightened prosperity; and the upper left holding a second red lotus bud, the symmetry of the two flowers emphasizing the balance and completeness of her blessing.

This sculpture is hand-carved and hand-painted in India in the warm palette of South Indian temple art: deep burnt orange across the skin, rich green for the draped sari and the stepped base platform, and warm gold outlining the layered necklaces, halo, crown, and lotus petal details. A large circular gold halo rises behind her crowned head, its rays carved in graduated lines radiating outward. Multiple gold necklaces layer across her chest, and green lotus medallion ornaments are painted across the bodice. The lotus throne petals are painted in deep orange and red, and the double tiered base carries arch panel detailing and a central rosette medallion in orange and gold. Every carved element is outlined in black and filled by hand. At 30 inches tall this murti commands a dedicated puja room, home altar, or business entrance where Lakshmi's blessing of abundance and grace is actively welcomed.

      "The statue chooses you.

You know when you find the right piece to bring into your home and into your heart."

"Beautiful goddess seated on a chariot, delighted by songs on lustful elephants, bedecked with lotuses, pearls and gems, lustrous as fire, radiant as gold, resplendent as the sun, calm as the moon, mistress of cows and horses - take away poverty and misfortune bring joy, riches, harvest and children."

Draped in red saree, bedecked with gold ornaments, seated on a lotus, pot in hand, flanked by white elephants, the image of Lakshmi adorns most Hindu homes and business establishments.

Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth, fortune, power, luxury, beauty, fertility, and auspiciousness.  She holds the promise of material fulfillment and contentment.  She is described as restless, whimsical yet maternal, with her arms raised to bless and to grant her blessings.

Shri is the sacred name of Lakshmi.  Shri is written atop most documents and spoken before addressing a god, teacher holy man or any revered individual.  The word evokes grace, affluence abundance, auspiciousness and authority.  When the word is spoken or written an aura of holiness is established.  Whatever follows is imbued with divine blessing.  Just as the word "Om" is associated with the mystical side of life, Shri is associated with the material side of existence.

Lakshmi represents the beautiful and bountiful aspect of nature.  As Bhoodevi, the earth-goddess, she nurtures life; as Shreedevi, the goddess of fortune, she bestows power, pleasure and prosperity on those who deserve her grace.  To realize her, one must respect the laws of life and appreciate the wonders of existence.
The use of a wood polish will keep the wood looking fresh and the colors vibrant.

Wood statues are easy to take care of as they just need some annual upkeep to keep them looking as they did when they were first carved. All the wood used by Lotus Sculpure's artists is dried out for months. Moisture causes cracks in the sculpture as the wood contracts and expands in different temperatures. Our wood has little to no moisture in it assuring that the sculpture is not going to crack in its journey into different climates. Here are some simple tips to keep your statue in good condition:

      • Dust the statue as needed to prevent dirt build up
      • To make the statue shine use a natural wood cleaner and a cotton cloth to buff the sculpture

We prefer Old English to polish and buff our statues. The use of a wood polish like Old English will keep the wood looking fresh and keep the colors looking vibrant. For natural wood and painted wooden statues we recommend Old English for lighter woods. For darker wood statues we recommend Old English for darker woods. Lotus Sculpture cleans and polishes each wooden statue prior to shipping them to the customer.

We recommend keeping wooden statues in an indoor environment. Wood statues can go outside however, they will wear more quickly and develop an antique appearance. If you would like to put a wood statue from Lotus Sculpture outside and keep the same appearance of the sculpture we would recommend first coating the statue with a couple of layers of sealant or polyurethane. We would then recommend placing the statue in a partially covered area. The more exposure to the elements the more the statue will wear over time. Please feel free to contact us directly if you have any questions regarding your wooden statue from Lotus Sculpture, (760) 994-4455 or info@lotussculpture.com.
