Vajrasattva, whose name translates loosely as "vajra hand" or "wielder of the vajra," is one of the most revered figures of Vajrayana Buddhism, second only to Mahavairocana Buddha. He embodies the indestructible bodhicitta, the awakened heart that transforms worry and affliction into enlightenment, and is invoked above all for purification, the destruction of sins and negative karma through sincere repentance and the chanting of his mantra. In his hands he unites the vajra of indestructible wisdom with the bell of compassion, the two joined as the complete path to awakening.

Seated in full lotus position, his right hand holds a five-pronged vajra at his heart, signifying the destruction of affliction and the completion of the paramitas, while his left hand rests at his lap holding a vajra bell, its sound rousing sentient beings from ignorance. His serene face is finely painted with half-open eyes, blue-tinted brows, red lips, and a red bindi at the brow, crowned with a tall five-pointed diadem inlaid with turquoise and coral. Layered beaded necklaces and a long jeweled mala drape across his bare chest, and silk scarves wrap his shoulders and arms, spilling in ribbons to either side. A towering openwork aureole scrolls with foliate flourishes and gemstone studs behind him, all rising from a wide double-lotus throne banded with beaded petals and precious inlay. Cast in godlen bronze and standing 15 inches tall, this piece is a radiant centerpiece for an altar, shrine, or meditation space.

The best way to maintain the statue is to simply dust the piece periodically to keep any dirt from accumulating. These statues are mostly small and meant for indoor use.
