Green Tara is standing with a water lily (utpala) on her right shoulder. Her left hand holds the stem of a lotus that is over her left shoulder. The lotus is a symbol of power and purity. Her right hand is in varada mudra or the boon-granting gesture. She has beautiful jewelery and details that are customary for Bangladeshi bronze statues.
Who is Tara? Tara is the angelic bodhisattva representing the miraculous activities of all Buddhas. She is born from Avalokitesvara's tears of compassion or from her own vow to be enlightened and stay a woman. There are innumerable manifestations of Tara, as many as beings require, but her most famous are the peaceful White Tara, who brings protection, long life and peace; and the dynamic Green Tara, who overcomes obstacles and saves beings in dangerous situations.
