About Us

"Traveling to India to hear the epic stories of the Mahabharata, Vedas, Bhagavad-Gita, and Upanishads from a Brahmin priest is an incredible experience. Discussing the bronze casting process with a family who has spent months creating a Nataraja in bronze adds a profound layer of understanding. Discovering the history, mythology, and culture of a world beyond our own and bringing its beauty to you is my passion. This is the passion of Lotus Sculpture."

Woman walking through verdant rice fields in Tamil Nadu, South India The Inspiration Behind Lotus Sculpture

My journey began in 1995 when I traveled to Chiang Mai, Thailand, at 18, to meditate in a Buddhist temple for two weeks. I fell in love with Asia but returned to the US reluctantly, with only 20 cents in my pocket. After graduating from the University of Richmond with a degree in religion, I spent three years backpacking around Southeast Asia, fascinated by the mystical stories of various religions, inspired by Herman Hesse's "Siddhartha."

Back in New York City, I spent two years in a suit, selling website development services, which felt like an eternity. I then left New York for my first trip to India, an eye-opening and intense experience. This journey ignited my desire to combine earning a living with my passion for travel and a deeper exploration of Eastern religions. My epiphany came when I saw my first bronze Nataraja statue. I wanted to meet the artisans behind these beautiful works and learn their craft.
"India was an eye-opening, intense experience!" Sadhus, Pastupatinath, Kathmandu Nepal Village children around the house of my friend ,Varadaraj in Swamimalai, Tamil Nadu, India Kyle with artists family in Surabaya, Java, Indonesia After witnessing the challenging and intricate lost wax method of bronze casting, I saw how the lack of demand impacted the lives of these talented artisans. Upon returning home after seven months abroad, I financed another trip to India, aiming to create a market for Indian bronze artists through the internet. My goal was to support the artists, find a fulfilling career for myself, and increase Western exposure to Eastern religious art. A year later, Lotus Sculpture was born!

Since then, I've expanded to include artists from Bangladesh, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, China, and Bali. We source a variety of materials, including wood, marble, stone, brass, and bronze. I regularly travel to personally select each piece, ensuring the highest quality and attention to detail.
"I hand-pick each statue directly from the artist who makes the sculpture..." Master wood artisan, Wayan carving Buddha statue in Bali, Indonesia Lotus Sculpture has fulfilled my dream. I've seen artisans grow from small workshops to employing dozens, revitalizing a once-struggling industry. The positive feedback from customers, knowing they are supporting these artists, continues to inspire me.

Thank you to all our customers for being a part of this incredible journey. Your support not only brings beautiful and meaningful art into your homes but also directly impacts the lives of artisans around the world. Together, we are preserving and celebrating these ancient crafts, helping communities thrive, and sharing the rich cultural heritage of Eastern religious art. We deeply appreciate your trust and enthusiasm, and we look forward to continuing this journey with you.
