Description Kwan Yin is seated in a relaxed position on a double lotus base.  In her right hand she holds a feather with her left hand resting in her lap in the dhyana mudra of meditaiton with a vase holding the divine nectar of life in it.  The nectar symbolizes compassion and wisdom, the hallmarks of a bodhisattva.   Her hair is raised onto a bun on top of her head with her robes covering her head.  She has a slight smile resting playfully on her lips and a small urna made from a white stone for a third eye.

About Kwan Yin:  Kwan Yin (also spelled Kuan Yin or Quan Yin), is known as the Goddess of Compassion, and she is one of the most popular deities in all of Asia.  Her name in Chinese roughly translates to  "The One who Hears the Cries of the World".  Many believe that she is the female representation of Avalokitesvara, who is the Tibetan and Nepalese God of Compassion.  As a bodhisattva, she has chosen to put off her complete attainment of enlightenment for the benefit of beings everywhere, and she will wait as long as there is one being who is not enlightened.

Care

Bronze statues from China do not need much maintenance.  They are durable and strong!  Most statues have black felt on the bottom of them to protect the surface they sit on.  The best way to maintain the statue is to simply dust the piece periodically to keep any dirt from accumulating.  These statues are mostly small and meant for indoor use.

"You can use a cotton cloth to periodically go over the statue to remove any dust or dirt buildup."

You can use a cotton cloth to periodically go over the statue to remove any dust or dirt buildup.  If you are really interested in making the statue shine you can use some natural oil, like coconut oil or olive oil, and a cotton rag to wipe down the metal portions of the piece.  You can use a toothbrush as well to get into the small crevices of the statue like the hands and hair.
