  • On top of his arms above him are 3 small Amida Buddha images in both the earth touching and meditating mudras
  • Avalokiteshvara is seated on a magnificent octagonal base with multiple tiers each of which is decorated with swirling designs
  • A beautiful and stunning depiction of the Bodhitsattva of Compassion, Avalokiteshvara!
Description In Buddhist legend, the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara vowed to liberate all sentient beings from suffering but when he realized the magnitude of his task, his head exploded into countless pieces.   His body was then reassembled by the Buddha Amitabha and the Bodhisattva Vajrapani (also known as the wielder of the thunderbolt) into this omniscient form of Avalokiteshvara, with eleven heads and a thousand arms.  Each of Avalokiteshvara's hands displays an all-seeing eye, symbolizing the union of wisdom and skillful means.
Avalokiteshvara's multiple tiers of heads are crowned by the fierce face of Vajrapani and at the very top the face of Amitabha, symbols of uncompromising compassion and the boundless light of the awakened mind.
Avalokiteshvara's Mantra "Om Mane Padme Hum" is found inscribed on rocks, temples and prayer wheels throughout the Himalayas and southeast Asia.

Care

Bronze statues from China do not need much maintenance.  They are durable and strong!  Most statues have black felt on the bottom of them to protect the surface they sit on.  The best way to maintain the statue is to simply dust the piece periodically to keep any dirt from accumulating.  These statues are mostly small and meant for indoor use.

"You can use a cotton cloth to periodically go over the statue to remove any dust or dirt buildup."

You can use a cotton cloth to periodically go over the statue to remove any dust or dirt buildup.  If you are really interested in making the statue shine you can use some natural oil, like coconut oil or olive oil, and a cotton rag to wipe down the metal portions of the piece.  You can use a toothbrush as well to get into the small crevices of the statue like the hands and hair.
