  • Avalokiteshvara is the Bodhisattva of Compassion, on his 1,000 hands there is an all-seeing eye which allows him to see those in need and then help them on their jouney towards enlightenment
  • Several parts of this stunning statue are silver plated, including Avalokiteshvara's robes, the lotus base, and the large surrounding halo
  • The arch of the piece that shows off Avalokiteshvara's 1,000 arms was made using a process called repousse the process of ornamenting metallic surfaces with designs in relief hammered out from the back by hand
  • His three right hands extended to the side are in the mudra of generosity, holding a Dharma bell and a crystal prayer bead mala, his three on the left hold a water flask, a bow and arrow and a lotus blossom.
An absolutely beautiful, one of a kind masterpiece of the Boddhistatva Avalokiteshvara!

Compassionate and peaceful in appearance, Avalokiteshvara's eleven faces rise upward in groups of three, the 10th is wrathful and the 11th face at the top is that of the buddha Amitabha.

In Buddhist legend, the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara vowed to liberate all sentient beings from suffering but when he realized the magnitude of his task, his head exploded into countless pieces.  His body was then reassembled by the Buddha Amitabha and the Bodhisattva Vajrapani (also known as the wielder of the thunderbolt) into this omniscient form of Avalokiteshvara, with eleven heads and a thousand arms.  Each of Avalokiteshvara's hands displays an all-seeing eye, symbolizing the union of wisdom and skillful means.  The first two hands hold a wish-fulfilling gem, a symbol of the deepest powers of the human psyche.
The next five hold a lotus, a bow, a vase, a buddhist rosary (malas), and a wheel.  The eighth hand (lower right) is in the varada mudra also known as the gesture of generosity and charity.

Avalokiteshvara's multiple tiers of heads are crowned by the fierce face of Vajrapani and at the very top the face of Amitabha, symbols of uncompromising compassion and the boundless light of the awakened mind.
Avalokiteshvara's Mantra "Om Mane Padme Hum" is found inscribed on rocks, temples and prayer wheels throughout the Himalayas and southeast Asia.

This piece is made of copper inlaid with turquoise and red coral gemstones. Avalokiteshvara's 11 faces are eaack painted with 18 karat gold. His robes along with the lotus base and large copper halo are all silver plated.
There are 7 separate parts: the main body, the top 4 heads, the back panel, the 17 arms to the right, the 17 arms to the left, the bottom throne which is decorated with 2 lions on each side, and above the throne the double lotus base on which he stands. The back of the piece was made using a process called repousse the process of ornamenting metallic surfaces with designs in relief hammered out from the back by hand.

I always say to our customers; The sculpture chooses you, you do not choose the sculpture.
You just know when you find the right piece to bring into your home and into your heart.
- Kyle Tortora, Founder of Lotus Sculpture
Avalokiteshvara is a bodhisattva from Mahayana Buddhism that is known for embodying the compassion of all Buddhas. He is typically depicted with eleven heads, representing his ability to hear the cries of the world, and one thousand arms, representing his ability to help those in need.

Copper statues from Nepali do not need much maintenance. The best way to maintain the statue is to simply dust the piece periodically to keep any dirt from accumulating. They are meant solely for indoor use.

If you would like the piece to shine use a cotton cloth with some coconut oil or other natural oil to wipe down the copper statue. Pay special attention to not go over any painted area of the sculpture.

If you are really interested in making the statue shine you can use some natural oil, like coconut oil or olive oil, and a cotton rag to wipe down the metal portions of the piece. You can use a toothbrush as well to get into the small crevices of the statue. Please pay special attention to not use any oil on any painted surface of the sculpture, such as the face. This will damage the paint and possibly recolor the painted area. Simply use a cotton cloth to dust the face if the face requires attention. Make sure the surface that touches the face does not have any oils present on it. If there are natural stones on the sculpture use caution while going over the stones as they can become dislodged while handling the sculpture.

If you have any questions concerning your bronze statue please email us at [email protected] or call us at 1(760) 994-4455.

For placing the statue our customers have either placed the statue themselves with help of a friend and a tool like a hand truck or a dolly. Or by contacting their landscaper who is used to moving large and heavy objects like rocks and trees into place. For much larger and heavier sculptures sometimes the customer needs a piece of heavy equipment for placing the statue like a crane or forklift.
