Guru Padmasambhava popularly known as Guru Rinpoche, the precious teacher, was a powerful Tantric Buddhist Master. He was invited to Tibet in the eighth century to propagate Buddhism.

Here he is seated on a single lotus throne. Held in his left forearm is the khatvanga or tantric staff, surmounted by the vajra cross, symbolizing the union of wisdom and compassion, the three heads, (wet, shrunken and skull, symbolize the conquest of the three poisons) and the trident, symbolizes the mastery of the three central channels of the yogic subtle nervous system. He wears a hat surmounted by an eagle feather.  He wears immense jewel-ornamented earrings. His robes fall around his solid body with natural ease. His round eyes seem intently fixed and the broad lips firmly set; his entire expression kind yet serious, with curled furrows where the brows come together.

Padmasambhava subdued many harmful spirits and forces that hindered the spread of the teachings of Buddha Shakyamuni. With his miraculous powers, he taught many disciples who also became perfect masters of Tantric Buddhism. He is said to have had twenty five great disciples who were instrumental in preserving the sacred teachings of Lord Buddha to the present day.

The face of Padmasambhava is painted with 18k gold. The gold is crushed into a powder and then made into a paste. The gold paste is mixed with an organic paint mixture then used to paint the most important part of any Buddhist statue; the face. This entire piece is beautifully hand painted.

This beautiful sculpture is hand crafted by the very talented artists of the beautiful Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal!

I always say to our customers; The sculpture chooses you, you do not choose the sculpture.

 ~ Buddha~
The Buddha, whose original name was Siddhartha Gautama, was the founder of Buddhism, the religion and the philosophical system that produced a great culture throughout much of southern and eastern Asia.  Buddha, meaning "awakened one" or "enlightened one" is a title not a name.  In Hindu Dogma, the Buddha is viewed as being the 9th avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu.
The Buddha was a son of the rulers Sakyas.  He was married at the age of 16 and lived in luxury and comfort sheltered from the harsh realities of life.  When he was 29 he realized that men are subject to old age, sickness and death.  He became aware of the suffering inherent in existence.  He resolved to give up princely life and become a wandering ascetic (samana) in search for the Truth.
With the two of samanas he attained mystical states of elevated consciousness but he failed to find the Truth.  He continued his search and was joined by five ascetics in a grove near Uruvela, where he practiced sever austerities and self-mortification for six years.  When he fainted away in weakness, he abandoned ascetic practices to seek his own path to Enlightenment.  Discarding the teachings of his contemporaries, through meditation he achieved Enlightenment, or ultimate understanding.  There after the Buddha instructed his followers in the dharma (truth) and the "Middle Way" a path between worldly life and extremes of self-denial.
The essence of the Buddha's early preaching was said to be the four Noble truths: 1) life is fundamentally disappointment and suffering.  2) suffering is a result of one's desires for pleasure, power, and continued existence; 3) to stop disappointment and suffering on must stop desiring; and 4) the way to stop desiring and thus suffering is the Noble eight fold path - right views, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right awareness and right concentration.  The realization of the truth of anatman (no eternal self) was taught as essential for the indescribable state of release called nirvana.

Copper statues from Nepali do not need much maintenance. The best way to maintain the statue is to simply dust the piece periodically to keep any dirt from accumulating. They are meant solely for indoor use.

If you would like the piece to shine use a cotton cloth with some coconut oil or other natural oil to wipe down the copper statue. Pay special attention to not go over any painted area of the sculpture.

If you are really interested in making the statue shine you can use some natural oil, like coconut oil or olive oil, and a cotton rag to wipe down the metal portions of the piece. You can use a toothbrush as well to get into the small crevices of the statue. Please pay special attention to not use any oil on any painted surface of the sculpture, such as the face. This will damage the paint and possibly recolor the painted area. Simply use a cotton cloth to dust the face if the face requires attention. Make sure the surface that touches the face does not have any oils present on it. If there are natural stones on the sculpture use caution while going over the stones as they can become dislodged while handling the sculpture.
