Description Hanuman is seated with his left hand resting in his lap in a position of meditation with his right hand reaching down towards the ground in a mudra more closely associated with the Buddha; the earth touching gesture. On the base are carved three symbols associated with Lord Vishnu; a discus and conch with Vishnu's vehicle, the eagle King Garuda in the middle.  On Hanuman's forehead is a "V" shaped tilaka.  A tilaka is a vaishnavite ritual mark meaning holy mud.  It is applied on the foreheads of devotees of Lord Vishnu.  Vishnu also wears the symbol on His forehead.
Devotees apply it as a mark of respect to Lord Vishnu, denoting they are holding His Lotus Feet on their forehead.

Hanuman known also as Anjaneya, is one of the most important personalities in the epic, the Ramayana. He is a vanara or "human with the tail of a monkey" who aided Lord Rama, an avatar of Vishnu, in rescuing His consort, Sita, from the Rakshasa king Ravana.  Hanuman is renown for his faithful and steadfast service to Rama as told in the Ramayana epic in which Hanuman played an active part.  Some consider Hanuman to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva.

About Black Granite:  Indian black granite is a wonderful stone. It is capable of a variety of finishes which can give it a variety of different color possibilities. It is possible to see 4-5 different colors on a single piece depending on the degree of polish or roughness of the stone. Indian black granite is among the best granite in the world sought after by artists globally. Unlike inferior quality granite, Indian granite is extremely dense and without impurities that plague other stones. The density of granite makes a granite sculpture perfect for any garden because it can be left outside in extreme heat and extreme cold for years without care.
About Hanuman Hanuman is one of the most important personalities in the epic, the Ramayana. He is a vanara who aided Lord Rama, an avatar of Vishnu, in rescuing His Consort, Sita, from the Demon king, Ravana. Vanaras are ape-like humanoids, who were created by Brahma and other gods to help Rama in battle against Ravana.

Hanuman is the son of Vayu, the Hindu God of Wind, and is looked upon by Hindus as the ultimate hero and great devotee of Lord Rama of the Ramayana. He represents the figure of the ideal being, as he is humble yet brave. His physical prowess, mental discipline and spiritual purity have made him extremely popular all over India.

He is a provider of courage, hope, knowledge, intellect and devotion. He is pictured as a robust monkey holding a mace or gada, which is a sign of bravery, and having a picture of Lord Rama tattooed on his chest, which is a sign of his devotion to Lord Rama.

He is also called Mahaveera (the great hero) or Pavan-suta (son of air) or Bajarangbali.  In Tamil Nadu he is known as Anjaneya.
Care

Granite statues from India do not need much maintenance.  The best way to maintain the statue is to simply dust the piece periodically to keep any dirt from accumulating.  They can be used for both indoor and outdoor use.

"You can use soap, warm water and a cotton cloth to periodically
go over the statue to remove any dust or dirt buildup.
"

Soap and warm water is the best way to maintain the statue.  You can use a small brush to get into the small crevices of the statue like the hands and hair.

Granite's durability makes it perfect for cold winters and hot summers of any climate.  The stone can stand up to the harshest conditions of heat and bitter cold.  We suggest you bathe the sculpture at least once a year so that dirt does not collect on the sculpture.  This will maintain the sculpture for your grandchildren and then their grandchildren!
