Outstanding personal attention and amazing pieces - 4.7.2015

Even though my purchase was a modest 11 inch statue Kyle took the time to let my girlfriend and I look around his amazing warehouse and patiently answered our numerous questions. He has some absolutely stunning pieces and it was a real pleasure to be able to admire them all without feeling rushed. When the day comes that I am ready to add another piece to my collection I will definitely make Lotus Sculpture my first stop.

Brings beauty and peace to my garden. Totally Zen. - 4.5.2015

Just sitting and looking at this beautiful Buddha statue brings a feeling of calm and peace, not only to me and my husband but this sentiment has been relayed to us by all friends and relatives who came to see the lovely zen Buddha statue. This is a second Buddha statue we have purchased from the lotus sculptures, and they both are breathintakingly beautiful. Thank you Kyle

Bronze Krishna on Cow Statue, 24" - 3.25.2015

I bought a unique, one-of-a-kind statue from Lotus Sculpture which depict Krishna sitting sideways on a cow and playing his flute, while the cow has twisted her neck around so she can gaze up at him with loving eyes. It depicts a very touching moment. The cow's posture shows such love and devotion. I've never seen anything like it. The artistic balance between Krishna and the cow is wonderful, and Krishna is very well done, with a slight smile on his face as he plays his flute. It's the most remarkable statue of Krishna I've ever seen. In addition, the shipment was extremely prompt and a proper statement of value accompanied the statue. This has been a very good experience with Lotus Sculpture. --Maris Whitaker

Bought one last week, bought a second today - 3.24.2015

Purchased a 19" painted Ganesha. It arrived last week and it is better than expected. It was very well packed. The colors are vibrant and the hues are perfect. I was afraid they might be garish in hand, but those fears were completely unfounded. Beautiful color palette. The carving is well detailed. It is a very handsome piece. I couldn't be happier with it In fact, I was so happy that I just finished purchasing a 36" painted Garuda. Once I saw the quality of the Ganesh I felt confident in purchasing a more expensive piece. And eagerly awaiting its arrival. Had I the money and the room, I would be in trouble.

Good Product Good Service - 3.23.2015

This is the first time I bought a statue from Lotus Sculpture. It arrived the next day. Well packaged. It is a beautiful Ganesh hand made wooden statue. Suggestion: it would be nice if you could list on your website if the statues you get from India involve fair trade and fair labor. I am already looking on the website for my next purchase. Thank you for the great experience and importantly for making these beautiful pieces of art available for purchase in the US.

    Exactly as promised - 3.11.2015

I've known about Lotus Sculpture from Hinduism Today magazine and from the testimonies of friends. His site is first rate and exhaustively documented with beautiful photographs, dimensions and descriptions. I appreciate the breadth of sculptures available be they of museum quality, bronzes or brasses, or as in my case, resin volcanic stone suitable for extreme weather and a more modest budget. It was a relief to know that I was going to be pleased when I opened the box to see professional grade rigid foam packing surrounding a thing of beauty.

    Description

Gopal Krishna is captured in his pose of playing the flute enchanting all the cow herders' daughters with his good looks and the melodies of his music.   Krishna's face is beautiful has a slight smile on his lips, as if he knows that he is in some way up to mischief!  No detail is spared on his cloths and jewelry.  All of his jewels are perfectly carved.  He wears makara earrings.  His headdress, jewelry and clothing are simply beautiful.  No detail was spared on this stunning sculpture.  The lotus base has beautiful carvings on it.  One aspect of this sculpture which is particularly unique is that Krishna's fingers are not wrapped around the flute as usual.  The pose catches his fingers in the act of playing the flute with some of his fingers extended.  The flute even has holes in it like  real flute.

    Defining Features of the Statue:
The Krishna is made from multiple castings and in separate parts.  Ice bronze, bronze, and copper.  The casting process is very difficult because each metal has a different melting point.  A wax mold must be made for each separate metal.  First a wax mold is made for the bronze portion of the statue.  The bronze is then cast.  After the bronze has been cast they then start on the wax mold of the ice brass portion of the statue directly on the bronze portion that has already been cast.  The ice brass has a lower melting temperature so as to not melt the bronze that has already been completed.  The process is then done a final time with copper which has the lowest melting point.  With each step the artist must be careful not to have the fire too hot so that the previously casted metal could melt.  It is an exact science miraculously performed on dirt floor huts in Swamimali, South India!

Here is a list of attributes of the sculpture and the metal they are made from:
Krishna's body, flute and parts of the base are made from copper.  His headdress, jewels and decorations are made from ice bronze.  The lotus base, the yali on the head of the flute and the halo behind Krishna is made is bronze.

Lost Wax Method:  This sculpture is a one of a kind, lost wax method bronze statue hand made by the artists of South India.  The sculpture pictured is the only sculpture Lotus Sculpture has like this in our store.  When you order this piece you will receive this exact sculpture.  It is truly one of a kind as there is only one made exactly like this!  Each bronze is hand made by a group of bronze artists whose families have been crafting bronze sculptures for centuries with the art being passed on by each generation.  The hand crafted bronzes statues have an incredible amount of detail which many other mass produced, brass Hindu statues lack.  Lost Wax South Indian bronze statues are the only sculptures used by Hindu temples throughout India and the world.  Click here to learn more about the Lost Wax Method.

    About Krishna

One of the most widely revered and most popular of all Indian divinities, is Krishna worshipped as the eighth incarnation (avatar) of Vishnu. Krishna became the focus of a large number of devotional cults, which over the centuries have produced a wealth of religious poetry, music, painting and sculpture.

The child Krishna was adored for his mischievous pranks; he also performed many miracles and slew demons. As a youth, the cowherd Krishna became renown as a lover, the sound of his flute prompting gopis (wives and daughters of the cowherds) to leave their homes to dance ecstatically with him in the forests. His favorite among them was the beautiful Radha. Krishna's youthful dalliances with the gopis are interpreted as symbolic of the loving interplay between God and the human soul. Krishna affirms life in his pranks, music and lovemaking.

The rich variety of legends associated with Krishna's life led to an abundance of representation in painting and sculpture. The most reknown story surrounding Krishna is the Bahgavad Gita or Gita which is considered one of the most importatnt Hindu texts. The Gita is the conversation between Krishna and Arjuna. Krishna is explaining to Arjuna that it is Arjuna's moral obligation to fight in a war that will put him against some members of his family. Krishna like Vishnu is an upholder of the moral order of the universe.

    Care

Bronze is an extremely durable metal made from a combination of 5 metals; copper, iron, tin, with minute additions of silver and gold.  This combination is called Panchaloha bronze and is the basis for making the sacred Hindu temple statues of India and the world.  Copper is the most prevalent metal in the alloy.  Copper also gives the metal a softer composition that allows the bronze artisans to carve the details that are prevalent in each piece.    All the South Indian bronze sculpture Lotus Sculpture carries are Panchaloham and thus suited for any home altar or community temple.

"If you would like the piece to shine use a cotton cloth with some coconut oil or other natural oil to wipe down the bronze statue."

Because of the durability of the metal not much is needed to maintain a bronze sculpture.  Many of our customers purchase a bronze statue and perform daily puja and abhisheka consisting of bathing the Hindu deity in ghee, milk, coconut milk or other liquids.  In this case nothing is needed to keep the statue clean as it will be bathed daily.  If the sculpture is used for "darshan" or simply viewing the sculpture it is best to dust the statue as needed so no dirt collects in the details of the sculpture. For both polished golden bronzes and antique patina bronze statues if you would like the sculpture to shine use a cotton cloth with some coconut oil or other natural oil to wipe down the piece as needed.

Many of our bronze Hindu statues have been placed in outdoor temples.  Bronze's durability makes it perfect for cold winters and hot summers of any climate.  We suggest you bathe the sculpture every couple of months so that dirt does not collect on the sculpture and then use a cotton cloth with some natural oil to give the statue a shine.  Both indoors and outdoors a bronze statue can be left alone which, overtime, will give the bronze an antique patina.

On some bronze statues you can see small hints of lime green, verde-gris patina.  Some people prize this color for its age others want to remove it.  If you would like to remove the verde-gris use a tooth brush with some coconut oil or other natural oil and lightly go over the verde-gris.  This should remove the unwanted patina from the sculpture.
